Dublin court grants Martin Foley short reprieve on home repossession

A Dublin court has granted Martin Foley a temporary stay halting the sale of his home, according to RTE.ie. The order blocks any sale of the property until Friday, giving Foley a brief reprieve from repossession proceedings.

The decision follows a hearing on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, in which Foley sought to delay the sale of his Dublin residence. RTE.ie reports that the stay is in effect until the end of the week, though the court did not grant a longer postponement.

Foley, who has been linked to organised crime in previous reporting, had argued that losing the home would leave him homeless. The Irish Times and the Irish Independent both covered the case, with Foley telling the judge that he had nowhere else to go if the property were seized. The home in question is located in the Kimmage area of Dublin, according to The Irish Times.

The case stems from action taken by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB), which has been seeking to repossess the property. The Irish Independent reported that Foley claimed he would be left without accommodation if the repossession went ahead. The court’s refusal to halt the CAB’s action entirely, and instead grant only a short stay, suggests the legal dispute over the property is far from resolved.

The stay expires on Friday, meaning Foley must return to court or face the prospect of the sale proceeding. The immediate question now is whether he will secure a further extension or whether the property will move toward sale at the end of the week.
